I have to admit that a lot of the striped bark maples have not impressed me, but this selection has. The problem with quite a few cultivars is, as the tree matures, the striping effect fades out (as the effect is most pronounced on young plants). 'White Tigress' keeps it 'stripiness', as the tree matures, which pleases us. There have been other forms that we've ripped out, as they've become dull and stupid with age.
And, the bark pattern is really the only reason to grow most of these trees, as autumn color is often sort of 'meh'. Our tree is sited under a high mixed canopy (Doug fir and chestnuts). We give the tree supplemental water, as it does not appreciate being tortured with months of drought. Treat it well and you will be rewarded!
