Actaea pachypoda

Common Name:

Doll's-eyes

Season:

Spring
Summer
Fall

Location:

Station 9 - Tennis Court Green

The common name for this East Coast native (roughly from the Mississippi River eastward) is, 'Doll's Eyes'. While we have a West Coast species, this one is the showiest.

Site this herbaceous perennial in a nutritive soil, where it gets supplemental water and a bit of afternoon shade, and you'll be rewarded with a gorgeous display as autumn comes on.

Be aware that the berries are poisonous. However, one would have to be willfully stupid/suicidal to eat enough of these, to cause harm, as they are nasty tasting...!

This species is around 18" to 24" in height, and about as wide. A low maintenance plant worth growing.
