The Highland’s Tour
Saturday May 31, 2025 | 10am
Spring has arrived, bringing with it Tim Clemen’s highly anticipated Highlands Garden Tour in the historic Olmsted-designed neighborhood near Dunn Gardens. Each garden on this exclusive tour is a private, park-like space that few have the chance to explore. Dunn Gardens is honored and grateful that Tim is once again leading this special fundraising event in support of our
mission.
On Saturday, May 31st , gardener and author, Tim Clemen, will be showing four of the estate gardens that his company, Tim’s Gardening, LLC, maintains. Tim’s co-hosts for the event will be Kevin Harvey (Garden Guru), Carolyn Temple (Garden Designer), and Josephine Watson (of Wells Medina Nursery). These experts will be generous with their plant knowledge and design ideas, so feel free to ask questions and take notes. After the tour, we’ll have a catered al fresco lunch together at Dunn Gardens.
The gardens we’ll be visiting
The Halligan Estate:
This French country villa was formally the home of vintners Allen and Kathleen Shoup. The house, pool and outbuildings are terraced into the landscaped hillside. Each subsequent garden escape of this grand estate opens to expansive views of the Salish Sea and Olympic Mountains.
The Robinson Estate:
The approach to this Olmsted inspired landscape winds through towering trees and lawns to the estate house. The French colonial home is a bastion of peace flanked by hydrangeas and a plethora of begonias. The hardscapes and gardens were recently re-envisioned by the Nussbaum Group Landscapers.
The Gale Estate:
Built in 1912 by Carlton Huiskamp Esq., this is one of the original Highlands estates. With lawns to run on, this is a dog friendly escape with vistas of the Sound and Mountains. The Gales have restored their sanctuary to its original glory with topiaries, knot gardens and vibrant color displays for every season.
The Predmore Estate:
Designed by Arthur Erickson, this was originally the home of art patron, Virginia Bagley Wright, and is a landmark of Seattle Brutalism in architecture. The garden has been reimagined by landscape architect, Darwin Webb. It is a symphony of native plants, ornamentals, and heritage trees with territorial views and a lookout from the terrace and infinity pool to the sea. I hope you will join us for this very special fundraiser!
